2014 Archaeological Field School in the Old Catawba Nation

Have you ever wanted to participate in an archaeological excavation? This course will give you the opportunity to do just that while earning six hours of college credit and fulfilling the experiential education requirement. It also will fulfill one of your requirements for the UNC Major in Archaeology. UNC's 2014 summer field school will excavate two Revolutionary War period Catawba Indian town sites in north Lancaster County, South Carolina (just south of Charlotte). These excavations are part of on-going archaeological research to obtain significant evidence about the emergence and endurance of the modern Catawba Nation. Our goal is to learn about these communities by uncovering artifacts and traces of houses and other features. It promises to be an exciting project.
