Honorable Morris K. Udall, Chairman
Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Mr. Chairman:

With this letter, the Association of American Indian Affairs, the Native American Rights Fund, the National Congress of American Indians, and the Society for American Archaeology would like to jointly offer our endorsement of H.R. 5237, the Native American Grave Protection and Repatriation Act, as it was marked up by the Committee on October 10, 1990. Attached is a letter from the American Association of Museume indicating that they also support H.R. 5237.

Because of its broad-based support, we hope and believe that this bill will create a workable framework fostering sensitivity and cooperation in achieving the appropriate repatriation of Native American human remains and cultural objects. We are grateful to you, to the Committee members, and to the Committee staff for working with all of us in the drafting legislation that has earned the support of these Indian, museum, and scientific organizations.

Sincerely,
