Lesson 2.4. Tree-Ring Dating
Mathematics (1999 version, implemented and tested.)
- Grade 5, Goal 1: Number Sense, Numeration, and Numerical Operations -- the learner will understand and compute with rational numbers.
- Objective 17: Determine if there is sufficient information to solve a problem; identify missing or extraneous data in problem-solving situations.
- Grade 5, Goal 2: Spatial sense, measurement, and geometry -- the learner will demonstrate an understanding and use of the properties and relationships in geometry, and standard units of metric and customary measurement.
- Objective 4: Use a compass to draw circles; identify and determine the relationships among the radius, diameter, chord, center, and circumference.
Science (1999 version, implemented but not yet tested.)
- Grade 5, Goal 1: The learner will build an understanding of the interdependence of plants and animals.
- Objective 2: Determine the function of organisms within the population of the ecosystem: producers, consumers, and decomposers.
English Language Arts (2001 version, implemented but not yet tested.)
- Grade 5, Goal 4: The learner will apply strategies and skills to create oral, written, and visual texts.
- Objective 2: Use oral and written language to:
- formulate hypotheses;
- evaluate information and ideas;
- present and support arguments;
- influence the thinking of others.
