Lesson 5.6. A Guided Journey Into the Past
Social Studies (1996 version, implemented and tested.)
- Grade 4, Goal 6: Geography -- the learner will evaluate the significance of the movement of people, goods, and ideas from place to place.
- Objective 2: Compare ways in which people, goods, and ideas moved in the past in North Carolina with their movement today.
Visual Arts Education (1996 version, implemented but not tested.)
- Grades 3-5, Goal 4: As a result of visual arts study, the student will choose andevaluate a range of subject matter and ideas to communicate intended meaning in artworks.
- Objective 3: Invent original and personal imagery to convey meaning and not rely on copying, tracing, patterns or duplicated materials.
- Grades 3-5, Goal 5: As a result of visual arts study, the student will understand the visual arts in relation to history and cultures.
- Objective 2: Identify specific works of art as belonging to particular cultures, times and places.
English Language Arts (2001 version, implemented but not yet tested.)
- Grade 4, Goal 4: The learner will apply strategies and skills to create oral, written, and visual texts.
- Objective 2: Use oral and written language to:
- present information and ideas in a clear, concise manner;
- discuss;
- interview;
- solve problems;
- make decisions.
- Objective 3: Make oral and written presentations using visual aids with an awareness of purpose and audience.
