Social Studies (1996 version, implemented and tested.)
- Grade 4, Goal 1: Anthropology, psychology, sociology -- the learner will analyze the characteristics of the people of North Carolina.
- Objective 1: Identify, locate, and describe ways of living of the major Native American groups in North Carolina, past and present.
- Objective 3: Analyze similarities and differences among North Carolina's people, past and present.
- Grade 5, Goal 5: Geography -- the learner will evaluate ways the people of the Western Hemisphere use, modify and adapt to the physical environment.
- Objective 3: Analyze causes and consequences of the misuse of the physical environment and propose alternatives.
- Grade 8, Goal 1: Impact of geography -- the learner will assess the influence of geography on the economic, social, and political development of North Carolina.
- Objective 3: Analyze ways North Carolinians have modified, used, and adapted to the physical environment.
English Language Arts (2001 version, implemented but not yet tested.)
- Grade 8, Goal 1: The learner will use language to express individual perspectives through analysis of personal, social, cultural, and historical issues.
- Objective 3: Interact in group activities and/or seminars in which the student:
- shares personal reactions to questions raised;
- gives reasons and cites examples from text in support of expressed opinions;
- clarifies, illustrates, or expands on a response when asked to do so, and asks classmates for similar expansion.
- Objective 4: Reflect on learning experiences by:
- evaluating how personal perspectives are influenced by society, cultural differences, and historical issues;
- appraising changes in self throughout the learning process;
- evaluating personal circumstances and background that shape interaction with text.
