Lesson 1.1. Why is the Past Important?
Social Studies (1996 version, implemented and tested.)
- Grade 4, Goal 12: History -- the learner will trace developments in North Carolina history and describe their impact on the lives of people today.
- Objective 1: Identify people, symbols, and events associated with North Carolina's heritage.
- Objective 2: Assess the influence of an important event from North Carolina's past on life today.
Science (1999 version, implemented but not yet tested.)
- Grade 4, Goal 4: The learner will build an understanding of technological designs.
- Objective 2: Observe the many tools that are based on designs found in nature.
English Language Arts (2001 version, implemented but not yet tested.)
- Grade 4, Goal 4: The learner will apply strategies and skills to create oral, written, and visual texts.
- Objective 2: Use oral and written language to:
- present information and ideas in a clear, concise manner;
- discuss;
- interview;
- solve problems;
- make decisions.
- Objective 3: Make oral and written presentations using visual aids with an awareness of purpose and audience.
